Book, Views of Glasgow and the Clyde
About this object
Views of Glasgow and the Clyde, a pictorial book. Photographs of Glasgow circa early 20th century.
While on leave during WWI, Private Donald Ross Boyd visited Scotland and sent this book back to his family in the Catlins. After the war, Mr Boyd farmed at Arapohue near Dargaville.
It was on this property in 1960 that this book and other items belonging to Mr Boyd were discovered in an old chest in a shed by a brother (Rev Rogers) of the then owner of the farm. Rev Rogers, was to become a minister in the Owaka Presbyterian church in 2002, and so it was by good fortune that the items which he had kept safely all those years, were able to be returned to the home town of Private Boyd.
