About this object

Uniform, military; WWII khaki jacket and trousers of coarse wool serge. Battle-dress jacket has 'NEW ZEALAND' shoulder title and two cloth rank stars (pips) on each shoulder. Red felt diamond on both upper sleeves. The lower left sleeve has a brass bar which is secured on the inside with a split pin. Trousers have leather strips stitched inside hems front and back to protect against wear.

Stamped on inside jacket pocket in black: 'NZ (followed by upward arrow symbol) D./MAY 1944 G'. Stamped on inside pocket in purple: 'WELLINGTON/14/WOOLLEN [illegible] 14'.

Stamped on inside trouser pocket in black: 'NZ (followed by upward arrow symbol) D./FEB 1943 G' and 'CATHIE & SONS LTD/16'.

A flier was found in an inside pocket of the jacket promoting the screening in Owaka of the movie "Secret Command" (released 1944) starring 'Pat O'Brien Virile....Unconquerable. Carole Landis Luscious....Kissable'.

These items are made from a drab serge fabric. The battle dress blouse has an open colour suggesting that it was worn by a member of J force. The red diamonds are from HQ 9th Brigade Group, J Force.
