About this object
Blood pressure kits; two kits, each consisting of a long wooden box with dovetailed corners and a hinged lid. The box is varnished and is secured with a metal clasp. Inside, a pressure gauge is attached to the inside of the lid, at the base of this a long, black rubber tube attaches to the armlet, which in turn is attached by a rubber tube to a rubber pressure ball.
Also contained within the kits is an instruction sheet for cleaning the pressure gauge, and in only one of the kits a pamphlet titled: 'Instructions for taking blood pressure' printed by E T Heron & Co Ltd, London and Essex.
The kits were manufactured in England by A C Cossor & Son (Surgical) Ltd under the brand name Accoson. This company was founded in 1859 by Charles Alfred Cossor, and is still active today, manufacturing blood pressure kits - otherwise known as sphygmomanometers.
