About this objectMatching framed portraits of Adam and Janet Meder, early Owaka settlers. Adam was a baker from Germany who settled at the Landing and set up in business. Janet was from Scotland. They later owned the Coffee Palace in Owaka until 1910. One daughter was Louise and sons were William, David, and George Herbert. David and George served in the NZ Tunneling Company during WW1. George was killed in action near Arras on 10 August 1917.
