Potato Digger

About this object

Potato digger brought from England to New Zealand in 1896 by the donor's grandfather and used on the family farm by three generations of the Moroney family. Originally operated with 2 horses this digger has been converted for use with a tractor. The wheel at the back rotated and dug the potatoes out of the ground, throwing them out to the side for pick up. This digger has been converted for use with a tractor. The Maroney family grew potatoes during the depression to help pay the grovery bill. Norman Crawford, a local horse trainer, used to borrow the digger to train the horses he was breaking in.
