Artillery Shell
About this objectBritish artillery fuze. Technical name: Fuze - Direct Action and Percussion No 119 Mark 4. This was a common fuze for the 5.5in Guns of 4 Medium Battery, which was based in Hamilton. It may also have come from American army troops stationed around the Raglan beaches and used during artillery practice. Often Raglan youths would go searching for bomb fragments around this area, so it is likely this piece was found in nearby Te Horea or Aotea sand dunes.
