Oamaru stone boulder

About this object

Oamaru stone is a limestone that has formed over millions of years from the remains of coastal sea dwelling creatures such as shellfish. The stone is easy to carve. Oamaru stone has left a distinctive mark on the landscapes of Waitaki - both in the grand Victorian buildings of Oamaru and naturally sculptured landscapes of the region.
