About this object

Lawn gown, plain gathered on to yoke with 2x broderie anglaise inserts each with a curved floral patterned drawn thread design, and small scalloped edging. Sleeves have tape/cord for gathering, as does neck. Mother of pearl button on placket at yoke. Sleeves are edged with cotton trim lace in a repeat pattern. Gown is machine made, with French seams. 'Staniland' in black ink on inside hem. Made by donors grandmother Mary Ann Cannon, in England approximately 1904. She immigrated to NZ in 1920. Gown was worn by donor and her brother and also donors mother. Four dresses in total.
