About this objectA photograph collection of the construction and unveiling of the Matakohe Monument for a memorial for the soldiers of the Great War in 1920-22. 1-9 Quarry of the rock for the monument on J.G. Coates property Te Kowhai. 10-11. Transporting the rock to stonemasons Bouskill and Parkinson in Auckland. 12. Erecting the monument in situ Matakohe. 13-26. January 3 1922, the procession, speeches and unveiling of the monument and the German Howitzer Gun that was displayed alongside. 27-31. Views of the monument and gun in subsequent years including 1966 and 1990, when the Howitzer gun was replaced with a WW2 Bofurs gun.
