About this objectA photograph taken in the desert during WW1. A group of horsemen in the centre with a crowd of soldiers sitting behind watching. On the back hand written, 'My Section being judged by Brigadier Major for best turned out in regiment. I got second. I am the right hand man of section on Sandy's horse'. Written probably by 13/178 Tpr. Thomas D. S. Donaldson of the Auckland Mounted Rifle brigade, he served in the same unit with his brother Alexander (Sandy) Donaldson in the Middle East for the war.
