About this object

Modern bronze sculpture of the 'Silent Soldiers' series entitled 'Man with a Donkey'. This is a famous image of the ANZAC story of 'Simpson and his donkey'. Simpson (John 'Jack' Simpson Kirkpatric) was a stretcher bearer at Gallipoli, and used a donkey to evacuate wounded soldiers from the battlefield until he was killed on 19 May 1915.
