About this object

Corset c.1890-1900's. Heavy grey cotton fabric with long line over hips. Laces at the back to tighten through fifteen metal eyelets, cotton tape lace has metal tips. Front is fastened with five metal clasps. Boning is most likely steel, with large ones at front close for the 'straight front' with many other smaller ones either side to emphasise and bones at the back more spread out. Each bone decorated on the outside with yellow thread crossed at ends. A large piece of white lace has been added by hand to the top part of the corset with yellow ribbon threaded through. 'The Celebrated "Zealandia" registered Corset' , 'Straight Front Warranted Bone' is printed on side of garment.
