About this object

Jacket c.early 1900. Matches 1991_543. Black silk, long sleeved jacket with cross over front, with angled fastening of frogs/buttons and inner hooks/eyes. A silk brocade triangle folds out over jacket body and as the shaping widens out towards the shoulders a blouse effect attachment is revealed. It is heavily crocheted medallions overlaid with black filmy voile. The round neck edge of 'blouse' is trimmed with gathered two tier lace and a row of little black 'ball' buttons. The jacket itself has an open black lace collar extending from below the shoulder line to back. Pin tucking features on the over jacket mostly on the back and the sleeves, sleeves are leg-o-mutton shaped. Black lace at cuffs closed with three dome buttons each. Waistband at bottom. Garment is boned and lined with cotton, three hooks at inside centre back, to attach to skirt.
