About this objectAn aquatint etching depicting silhouettes of a nikau palm and flax bush. The title refers to the South Island West Coast river and bluff located in the Kahurangi National Park north of Karamea. Kohaihai is renowned for unspoilt nikau forests. The artist (who is also known as a writer on ecological subjects) was involved in the protest movement that saw this area being designated as a conservation park in the late 1970s.
