About this objectA calm scene in Fiordland with the snow capped mountains of the background reflected in the water. Scrub covered hillside creeps to the water's edge. A white swam swims amongst the marshes in the bottom right corner.

Subject and Association DescriptionJohn Gully often used others' sketches for his paintings. His first trip to Fiordland was in 1874. This painting predates that and therefore must have been done from a sketch supplied to the artist.
