Subject and Association Description
This was Bishop Andrew Suter's second Kaikoura painting which is likely to have travelled with "Kaikoura" to the New Zealand Exhibition in Wellington 1885, The Colonial and Indian Exhibition in London 1886 and the Melbourne Centennial Exhibition 1888.
Whaling was important to the Kaikoura economy in the 1880s and the whale watch industry retains a central position today.
