About this objectA peaceful scene showing Riwaka at the end of summer. Trees dot the fore and midground as the grass covered land drops away to the shore. In the distance the Richmond Ranges rise up on the far side of Tasman Bay.

"Before the Storm - Riwaka" was also painted during March 1888.
In April John Gully's health began to deteriorate and he died later that year on 1 November 1888.
The Bishop Suter Art Gallery Founding Donation, gifted by Mrs Amelia Suter in memory of her husband Bishop Andrew Burn Suter in 1895
