Name/Title

An iron container on display behind Puhinui.

About this object

An iron container sent around the world from Britain c1850 - 1950 full of blue for washing clothes (before detergent styled soap powders) to make clothes whiter. They were often later used for firewood, water tanks or dry storage areas. This was the first example of containerisation in the world. Blue had to be kept dry, hence the iron container.
