About this object"Puhinui Pioneers covers an extensive history of the McLaughlin family who settles in Wiri, Auckland in the 1860s. The family's ancestors originated from Ireland. They may have stayed there if it had not been for Thomas Morris McLaughlin who settled in South America and later bought around 1200 hectares in New Zealand in 1845. William, son of Thomas Morris McLaughlin was born in Peru. He farmed this south Auckland property into the 20th century and called it Puhinui. His decision to reside in New Zealand allowed the family name to progress, and several generations later the family is still connected to Puhinui because of the two-storey homestead he built has been preserved at Howick Historical Village in Auckland..."
