Poling kauri logs down the Turanga River
About this objectA man poling Kauri logs being floated down Turanga River at Whitford. Also showing a boat and trees. Envelope also contains a photocopy of the back of the original postcard - Mr Benton with the compliments of A G Broomfield and a note written by Ralph George Benton (b. 17.11.1915) - Whitford 1920-24. Farm 40 acres of Kauri next to Broomfields. Auckland Kauri Company used to take the logs back to Auckland by floating them. Came up the creek at high tide only. There was a rock under the bridge. One day Father stepped over the edge and he and the jack he was using disappeared. Logs went from our place into the river; we could only get them that far.
