Housed in the re-sited Waiorongomai School Hall (c1916), this museum is the historical focus of Featherston and district with displays reflecting life from the 1850s. The museum also houses a collection of photo's and documents reflecting life at the Featherston Military Training Camp (c1916-1924) and the Japanese Prisoner of War Camp (c1942-1946) which was built on the same site as the Training camp. Also within the Featherston Heritage precinct, is the first courthouse in the Wairarapa in which the first court sat in 1860 - now the Information Centre, the Feathertson Library which has served as the public Library since it was built in 1895, the Fell Locomotive museum with the last remaining Fell Locomotive in the world,and a muck wagon - one of the many used to build the Rimutaka Railway tunnel. Also on display is a working Ford Model AA 1933 fire engine and fire fighting memorabilia of the Featherston Volunteer Fire Brigade.
Featherston is twinned with Messines (Belgium) and artefacts, photographs and documents from this town also feature.
