Pied Shag on Fanal Island.
Ada May and Louis Wintle along with friend Noelle Macdonald travelled by the launch 'Gunner' from Leigh to Fanal Island, part of the Mokohinau Islands in May 1954, to observe the bird life and the ecology of the islands.

Louis Wintle was a member of the Ornithological Society of NZ, National Geographic, Mangawhai Historical Society (Patron) and Friends of the Hauraki Gulf Maritime Park.

Ada May Wintle nee Elvey b 1906 d 1982 and Louis Lester Wintle b 1903 d 1994 lived at 'Wintlelea' Tara.

The original diary of Louis and Ada May Wintle includes information on their 1954 trip to Fanal Island is held in Mangawhai Museum archives eHive number 18-43K.
