Memorabilia from 3225 Tpr. Egbert Dowson who died of enteric fever on 9 Feb 1902 in Charlestown, South Africa. 1.'Auckland Mounted Rifles Parade notices for Trooper Dowson, tied together with ribbon. 2. Card sent by E. Dowson to his mother from Cape Town, SA with 'Everlasting Silver leaves from Table Mountain and a photograph of a wounded soldier. 3. A cheque dated july 17 1899 issued by 'The Natal Bank Limited. £1.14s.8d.'. 4-5. Postcard from Egbert to his mother and sister, from New York after he just got to meet Thomas Edison. 6.1-2. Two envelopes. 7. Postcard sent 15 July 1900 to Mrs T.W. Dowson, Kaiwaka. 8. Christmas card sent by Egbert to 'Mother'. 9. Card made by Egbert after his horse 'Charlie' took him safely to camp after a battle with the Boers and fell dead while feeding in Bloemfontein 1901. Card has some of a lock of Charlies mane tied to it. 10. Blue Notebook of 'Drill Notes, Matakohe, Paparoa' 1900. 11. Cheque book, 'The National Bank of the Orange Free State Ltd., Rouxville Branch'. First date 31 January 1896, last date 16th March 1896.
