About this object
Memorial plaque or commonly known as a ‘Death Penny’. These were given to families who lost a loved one in WW1. A large round bronze plaque engraved with Britannia and a lion and the words ‘HE DIED FOR FREEDOM AND HONOUR.’ The soldier’s name, Gordon Gladstone Rogers is engraved on it. 23440 Rfm. Gordon Gladstone Rogers died in action in Ypres, Belgium, 12.10.1917. He was the uncle of the donor’s husband.
